850 nm/Electrical OST Interface
The A3318 850 nm/Electrical OST
Interface operates in conjunction
with the Circadiant family of OSTs. It enables the OST to make stressed eye measurements in accordance with the IEEE 802.3ae standard using multi-mode fiber at a wavelength near 850 nm. Included electrical TX and RX interfaces allow testing of the high-speed electrical inputs and outputs of optical transmitters and receivers. Traditional near-perfect signals may be utilized or the
A3318 may be used to make “Dirty BERT” measurements where
electrically noisy signals simulate real-world degradations.
- Makes optical stressed eye receiver conformance measurements at 850 nm
- Tests multi-mode components and systems using real-world optical signals
- Produces real-world electrical signals
The A3318 850 nm/Electrical OST Interface operates exclusively as a slave to the OST:

A single mode fiber jumper from the output of the OST carries an optical signal (possibly degraded) to an input on the A3318. The A3318 re-broadcasts this analog signal to a Device Under Test (DUT), perhaps with additional degradations, either through a multi-mode fiber at 850 nm or electrically through coaxial cable. Similarly, an optical signal over multi-mode fiber, or an electrical signal over coaxial cable, sent to the A3318 by a DUT is digitally re-broadcast to the OST via a single mode fiber.
The A3318 works only with an OST and will not operate in a stand-alone mode.
Single Mode Optical Interface
The OST generates non-degraded signals or signals with certain degradations that are sent to the A3318 via single mode fiber. The A3318 converts electrical or multi-mode optical signals received from a DUT and re-broadcasts them over single mode fiber to the OST.
